Dubai: A Dubai resident woke up Sunday morning to see all four wheels of his car stolen from the parking lot beside his residence.
Indian expat Rengith Vasudevan, who works as a data entry operator, said all four wheels of his 2005 model car disappeared, including the rims. The father of two told Gulf News on Sunday he was mind-blown to see this happen to him after three years of living in Al Khail Gate, a residential community.
“I have been parking my car in the same parking lot for the last few years and this is the first time an incident like this has happened with me. A lot of people who come back from their late duty shifts after midnight, and are unable to find a parking next to their home, would park their cars in this parking.”
Vasudevan said it was a proper designated parking area that was a five minute walking distance from where he lives.
“I wake up at 7:30am in the morning almost every day to move my car from that parking to a shaded parking next to my building, which by then becomes empty as everybody is off to work. I was so shocked this time that out of all the cars parked it was mine that was robbed.”
No surveillance cameras were available around the area where the wheels were stolen, he added.
The matter was taken to police as Vasudevan had filed a report on the incident. “The police have taken fingerprints and said they would hand me a police report in three days to hand the insurance company. My car has a full insurance coverage but I’m still not sure how theft cases are handled.”
Upon contacting American Home Assurance Company, where Vasudevan had insured his car, they said the police report is mandatory and required by both the insurance company and by the agency of workshop.
“In such cases, which fall under incident of theft, we would require a police report. The file is then handled by a claim adjustor, who further investigates the insurance claim to determine the extent of the insuring company’s liability. There have been a couple of cases like these sometime back,” said Surendran Thangarajah, manager for the claims department.
